Impeachment & Trump 2.0
Korean American Peace Fund (KAPF), Korea Peace Now Grassroots Network (KPNGN), and Korea Peace Action co-hosted an online forum. The topic was "The Impeachment Crisis and Trump 2.0."
Background and Purpose
President Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2025, and officially began his term. As the foreign policy of the second Trump administration was represented by America First, it became a major variable in various fields of international politics, diplomacy, security, economy, and trade. These changes in the international environment had a significant impact on the Korean Peninsula, the region, and the broader global situation.
At a time when inter-Korean relations had deteriorated and tensions had risen, South Korea needed to respond effectively to the inauguration of the second Trump administration. However, Korean society was already in turmoil due to the December 3 emergency declaration, the impeachment of the president, and the acting government system.
Accordingly, this webinar examined the direction of the second Trump administration’s foreign policy, analyzed its implications for foreign affairs and national defense under the impeachment crisis, and discussed what civil society could do to reduce tensions and build peace on the Korean Peninsula.
