Times Square Korea Peace Campaign
Times Square Korea Peace Campaign by Korean American Peace Fund and Korea Peace Action
The Korean American Peace Fund (KAPF) and Korea Peace Action are launching a large-scale video campaign in Times Square, New York City, from July 25 to 27, 2025, to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. The video, displayed on a massive electronic billboard, calls for peace on the Korean Peninsula. Amid rising global tensions, the campaign aims to raise awareness in the U.S. about the unresolved Korean War and to encourage greater public engagement and support for peace.
Since last year, KAPF has organized an annual Times Square video campaign for Korea peace. The campaign was officially announced at an online press briefing on Tuesday, July 22. KAPF President Yu Soung Mun stated, “The video delivers three messages: (1) 72 years of armistice is too long, (2) the need for a peace agreement, and (3) a call to formally end the Korean War.”
The video will be shown for 10 seconds every 100 seconds over 7.2 hours per day—approximately 800 times daily and over 2,500 times in total during the campaign. President Mun also noted that the video campaign will be coordinated with advocacy efforts for the Korea Peace Action Bill currently introduced in the U.S. Congress. Following the campaign, KAPF will send letters to all 435 U.S. Representatives, 100 U.S. Senators, and more than 300 members of the South Korean National Assembly urging support for the peace legislation.
Taeho Lee, Co-Executive Director of Korea Peace Action, said, “After learning about KAPF’s campaign last year, we decided to join the effort this year. With participation from Korea, we hope to garner broader public support.” He added, “Unlike the previous administration, which escalated war tensions, the new Korean government and the Speaker of the National Assembly have committed to declaring peace on the Korean Peninsula. We will also work to ensure that the National Assembly adopts a resolution in support of the peace bill.”
About Korean American Peace Fund (KAPF) Founded in March 2023, KAPF works to:
1. Reduce U.S. military spending in Korea and globally, redirecting funds toward domestic healthcare and welfare; 2. End excessive U.S.–ROK joint military exercises and military escalation between the U.S., South Korea, and North Korea; 3. Advocate for a peace agreement and official end to the Korean War through U.S.–North Korea and inter-Korean negotiations; 4. Promote a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula and world. About
Korea Peace Action Korea Peace Action emerged from previous efforts including the “Korea Peace Appeal” (2020–2023) and the “70th Anniversary Korea Peace Action.” These international campaigns collected over 200,000 signatures calling for an official end to the Korean War and a peace agreement. In October 2023, the campaign outcomes were submitted to the United Nations and governments of parties involved in the Korean War. Responding to rising tensions and deteriorating inter-Korean relations, Korea Peace Action was relaunched to sustain public engagement for peace. Its current activities include national peace conferences and petitions urging an end to military hostilities in border areas. The movement is supported by 607 Korean religious and civil society organizations and 80 international partner organizations.
